A multi-agency investigation has led to the arrest of a suspect in a homicide case that has shaken the quiet town of Havre, Montana. The victim, 35-year-old Dixie Schroeder, was found deceased on May 7, prompting a swift and coordinated law enforcement response. Days later, Cody Rencurel, also 35, was taken into custody in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after being found in possession of Schroeder’s vehicle. He is now facing charges of deliberate homicide.

According to the Havre Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 2:14 p.m. on May 7, reporting a deceased female at a residence in the 300 block of 14th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Schroeder’s body and immediately suspected foul play due to the condition of the crime scene.

Recognizing the seriousness of the case, the Hill County Sheriff’s Office joined the Havre Police in launching a formal investigation. They quickly enlisted the expertise of the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to assist in processing the scene and collecting evidence.

As the investigation unfolded, a person of interest was identified. Investigators were able to trace Schroeder’s missing vehicle to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where the suspect, Cody Rencurel, was located. Acting on this information, authorities secured an arrest warrant for deliberate homicide through the Hill County Attorney’s Office late on the evening of May 8.

In collaboration with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, Rencurel was apprehended without incident. A search conducted during and after the arrest uncovered evidence suggesting additional violent crimes were being planned, a deeply disturbing revelation that has intensified the scope and urgency of the investigation.

Rencurel is currently being held at the Kootenai County Detention Center, pending extradition and further legal proceedings. Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with detectives continuing to follow leads and process evidence.

In a statement released by the Havre Police Department, officials expressed their gratitude for the seamless coordination and commitment shown by all agencies involved in the arrest, including the Tri-Agency Drug Task Force, Hill County Attorney’s Office, Montana DCI, and both Idaho-based law enforcement entities.

“This investigation would not have been possible without the unwavering cooperation, teamwork, and communication from multiple agencies. Their efforts helped ensure a swift and safe resolution in bringing the suspect into custody,” the department stated.

The death of Dixie Schroeder has left her loved ones and the local community devastated, as questions remain about the motive and circumstances that led to this tragic act of violence. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Rencurel or the case to contact the Havre Police Department at 406-265-4361.

As investigators continue their work, the community is being asked for patience and support. Law enforcement has reiterated their commitment to justice and transparency as more details are uncovered.

A Community in Mourning

As the investigation proceeds, friends, family, and community members are left to mourn the loss of Dixie Schroeder—a woman whose life was taken too soon. Vigils and memorials are expected to be held in the coming days as loved ones gather to remember her and call for justice.

Authorities have promised to share more information as the case develops, and anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to the incident or the suspect is encouraged to come forward. Even the smallest detail could prove crucial in ensuring justice is served.
